Info

These stoves are a hand-made product from a rural area in west Malaysia.

They are designed to be compatible with our clay cooking pots (Village Pots) and dosa pans for an outdoor cooking set up. They can also be used for grilling if a grate is placed on top.

They may come with small cracks, divots and markings. These 'blemishes' will not affect their cooking ability and are reflective of the stoves handmade nature.

THE MAKER.
Mr Foong

Mr Foong is a fourth generation stove maker, now in his late 50s. His factory has been running for 80 years, following very similar techniques and making procedures since the beginning.

The clay is pressed in moulds to form the shape and trimmed by hand. They are double-walled for strength and thermal insulation and have a sliding door to help regulate the amount of oxygen entering the stove.

After the stoves are moulded and trimmed, they're left to dry. This takes 1 week in good weather and 2 weeks in the rainy season.

Once dried, they're 'cooked' in a wood-fired kiln for 24 hours. Then, they become solid enough to hold burning charcoal and be a functional stove.
